How Much Does A Hipster Weigh? (An Instagram)

(Just to clarify, I'm not a hipster). I don't own a single snap back,  or have a film camera tattooed on me (you know, some classic hipster attributes).

I also sort of lied. In my last post, I said I was opting for more muted colours that AREN'T BLACK, but are still considered neutrals. But it was sunny when i said that...then it rained- because Vancouver is bipolar. So here I am, back in black.

There's something about waking up to the sound of rain that makes you want to cry because you know you have to commute to school in that (and lets be honest here... nobody likes the smell of wet bus), but the rain also makes you want to dress cozy! In situations like these, I like to wear knits, and only knits- so today, my entire outfit consisted of comfortable pieces that still managed to look chic and like I put some effort into getting ready this morning. It's like an illusion- from the outside, you look completely presentable to the rest of the world, but on the inside, you feel like you're wrapped in an infomercial snuggie. So basically, knit garments are the key to happiness on dreary days.

This is one of my favourite outfits to wear because it is extremely comfortable, casual, yet chic for Vancouver's fashion scene!

MY OUTFIT:

Black Knit Toque-H&M
Tortoise Shell Glasses-Balmain
Black Knit Sweater-Lord&Taylor @The Bay
Grey Heathered Skirt-Roots
Black Nylons-H&M
Black Cut-out Ankle Booties-H&M

Welcoming Spring The Only Way I Know How To.

Sadly, winter is officially over. It's my favourite season so im slightly bummed about this. However, the weather is getting better- it stays brighter outside later (which is a wonderful thing because arriving and leaving school when it's pitch black outside was starting to get a little depressing). The flowers are starting to bloom and the birds are chirping... in the morning...very, very early in the morning..but what can ya do, right? Everything is taking on a new, refreshed life- including my wardrobe.
I have always been one to wear neutrals...all the time. To see me in a substantial amount of bright coloured clothing is a 'hell must've frozen over' type thing. But there is something refreshing about wearing clothing that isn't all black... so for this spring, I am opting for more muted colours that feel brighter, but are still neutral.

MY LOOK:

Black Wool Hat (obviously...)-H&M
White Sheer(ish) Blouse-H&M
Green Quilted Jacket-Aritzia
Grey Skinny Jeans-Target
Black Ankle Booties-H&M

This is my mama, Sue, and she is the cutest thing to ever walk the face of this earth.
Just like Ben, she can go from sporty, all-adidas-all-the-time, to super chic!
She is my partner in crime, and shopping buddy.. we totally egg each other on in a store.
She'll occasionally ask for my opinion when putting an outfit together, but sometimes she'll completely surprise me, and put something super trendy together.. she's so stylish!!
The signature Schreiner look seems to be a collared shirt layered under a sweater, but who can blame us, it's totally classy (and British)!
Today my mom rocked a classic neutral look, pairing a chunky knit sweater over a basic button up (typical), with a simple skinny jean, and black ankle booties (my ankle booties........) She's a cool mom ♡

Her Look:

-Beige chunky knit sweater: Olsen at the Bay
-White button up shirt: Ellie Tahari
-Black skinny jeans: Jessica Simpson at the Bay
-Black ankle booties: Township at the Bay

This is my brother Ben. He is a university rower, and can go from uni-suit to suit and tie like it's nobody's business.
I want this blog to be used as style inspiration,  not just for women's wear, but for menswear aswell- so Ben will be making cameo appearances quite frequently.
As I begin research for my upcoming menswear project at school, I find Ben's closet a pretty darn good resource, as he appreciates quality pieces, and unique details. And to be honest, he was the one who taught me what collar stays are (im slightly embarrassed to admit that though).
I have always been interested in menswear, because typical pieces like a dress shirt or sports coat, are amped up by the details- button placement, contrast collar stands, pockets- it's the little things that make a difference.
I think it's safe to say Ben has good style- he's a sharp dresser, and knows how to pick out a nicely fitted dress shirt by himself (something probably most guys struggle with). When it comes to tailored pieces, he swears by H&M. H&M sells slim fit garments because they understand that there are some guys in this world who want to look presentable.. and not wear baggy clothing. Ben can almost always leave H&M with a timeless, European inspired piece that will always be in style, and can be paired with almost anything.

His Look:

-Brown Tweed Blazer: H&M
-Blue Vneck Sweater: Abercrombie
-White/Blue pinstripe dress shirt: H&M
-Brown Leather Watch: Invicta
-Medium Wash Denim: H&M
-Brown Leather Shoes: Aldo

I am a full time fashion student and a full time fashionista. Being both is hard, but rewarding work. Keeping up with trends, while keeping up with homework... It's harder than keeping up with the Kardashian's! Lucky for me, neither of these professions slow down; hence full time. Homework is always piling up, and trends are always changing, but that's what I love about this industry!
