Remember that Dress?

Of course you do. The cute grey one? That I paired with converse? I felt incredibly British and told you I would be styling this piece a lot of different ways this summer. Well I would never lie to you, hence, a post where this adorable sleeveless sweater dress is styled completely different.

Let's say: Simple & Minimalistic, shall we.

There is a way to wear all knits without wearing sweat pants and a hoodie (I am allergic to this unfortunately dynamic duo.... except after school, and at night. But that never leaves my house). A lot of people think that in order to be comfortable, sweat pants are the only option. WELL THOSE PEOPLE ARE WRONG.

For an impromptu coffee date after work on a warm day, I wanted to be comfortable, yet look presentable. I wore my grey ZARA knit sweater dress and paired it with an beige oversized knit cardigan and my {favourite} simple sandals that are colour blocked {grey, white & black}. They are super comfy and match the minimalistic look of this outfit. My accessories are very basic- small, dainty rings, and a leather watch. Nothing fancy. I occasionally hate carrying a purse around, so I opt for small wristlets instead. My black and white herringbone clutch/wristlet from J Crew is the perfect, simple addition to this look.

I rocked a slicked back pony simply because my hair has been in a hat at work for the past few days.

Crazy for Coffee & Spice.

I always envy the people who can casually pull of lipstick on a daily basis. I never felt like I could, simply because my lipsticks are either burgundy, magenta, redy-orange... you know... bold colours. So I never felt like it was a casual thing to wear. I needed to be feeling extra bold to wear lipstick to school. I have been looking for a lipstick that I could wear everyday that is noticeable, but not super bright or bold- just something subtle. Who else to go to for lipstick advice than Jessica! She always has such amazing lipsticks so I figured she'd be able to point me in the right direction.

We went to the makeup motherland, AKA Target, and with my request of looking for a brown lipstick, she helped me find the perfect colour!
Picture
This Annabelle lip liner in the colour Spice (300) is a perfect primer before putting on a similar coloured lipstick, and it is also just as beautiful on it's own! Completely obsessed with it, and the best part is, is that it doesn't break the bank, it was $3.00! In some places like Sephora or Mac, you will pay and arm and a leg for products, but if you're looking for a quick fix, then drug store dupes are just as good!
I also purchased Maybelline's 'Crazy for Coffee' (275)- no wonder I was drawn to this lipstick... coffee. It is a beautiful light brown colour (maybe slightly mahogany) and I must say, it is a lipstick that works quite well with my complexion! It is easily wearable in Spring/Summer, as well as Fall/Winter!

And let's be real, when you put on lipstick, you just feel more fabulous!

Layering, without the Layering.

There's a few things I'm a sucker for: Sunsets, cityscapes, dogs, and layering.
The thing I love about layering is getting to mix textures, prints, colours, you name it! And it's perfect if you need to peel layers off throughout the day! For an overcast summer day such as today, it was cloudy, slightly windy, with still some warmth to the air. This type of weather is deceiving when trying to get ready in the morning- your head tells you it's chilly, but your body tells you it's warm. Complicated stuff.
So instead of bulking up on tons of layers as I normally would on a cloudy Fall day, I opted for a soft jersey knit longsleeve that looks as though I layered a blouse underneath up. But be fooled not. This beautiful Damask Kensie {Macy's New York} shirt is one piece. The white woven fabric is sewn to the hem of the jersey with a placket and buttons and all to make it look as though it is layered. Jokes on you. No layering required for this look!
I love how relaxed, yet still put together this look is. The shirt has very little shape to it, yet it fits me properly, and it pairs really well with light washed relaxed denim, while the black booties clean the entire 'slouchy' look up.

{On another note, after 2 months, I was finally reunited with one of my really good friends! The last time we saw each other, we were leaving the airport after an amazing trip to New York! It was great to catch up over Starbucks from our [Drip] mugs, check out Fort Langley, go for lunch, pick up some makeup, and do a lil' blogging! Jessica is the gal behind  'I NEED ANOTHER CLOSET' which you should check out by clicking on the button below!}

And she did a wonderful job photographing my outfit today!

I've Never Been so in Love With a Tank Top.

The other piece I picked up from ZARA during their sale is this crisp white tank top with a higher jeweled neckline! I think it is absolutely beautiful and I am completely obsessed with it!
Picture
I don't see this as a transitioning piece from Summer to Fall, so I'm going to get as much use out of it these last few weeks of summer as I can! It's great because it's such a basic piece, but the jewels around the neckline make it more than just a 'basic' tank top... and hello, built in necklace! No jewelry required for this look!
Picture
I paired the crisp white tank top with light wash jeans that are slightly more tailored than boyfriend jeans, and nude heels with a chunky silver heel. I love this whole look, it is very summery, and the lavender and darker purple jewels on the neckline give the outfit a pop of colour while still looking very minimalistic and classic.

The Perfect LBD.

Lansdowne Mall is good for 3 things: Winners, Target, and Sushi. But mostly Winners. After prying myself away from a {gorgeous} Diane Von Furstenberg bag, I fell in love with an LBD. But it's not your typical Little Black Dress. I feel like when most people think 'LBD' they picture a short, body hugging dress that most likely has a low cut neckline. Yah, but no thanks. I'd much rather wear a modest LBD. And what is more modest than a shapeless tent dress! For some reason, I seem to gravitate more to shapeless dresses, and I have no explanation why. I find them incredibly flattering (again... not sure why), and they are extremely comfortable because they allow you to move! AND THIS DRESS HAS POCKETS! HUGE selling point for me. Anything with pockets- Boom, sold!
Picture
I love how the pattern for this dress was slashed and spread, giving it volume at the bottom to hang away from the body. There is a front panel, side panel, and back panel to this dress, and the outside of the pockets and the front of the dress are one piece- so there are no seams showing it is a pocket. The inside of the pocket (pocket bag/lining) is the side panel of the dress. So I love how simple and clean this dress looks because there are no external seams for the pocket.
Picture
I kept this look ultra simple for summer, and just paired it with my black cut out ankle booties, and classic black and gold sunnies. I look forward to styling this outfit for the Fall by layering and mixing different textures! So stay tuned for more looks on this as well!

Am I British Yet?

The ever so popular converse trend is very British. I mean, those Brits will wear converse with anything! But it looks so good! And I am clearly obsessed with anything British... The Royal Family, the fashion, History, and obviously One Direction. So to make myself feel like I am British, I have been on the hunt for white converse for a few months now. A few months you say?! Why so difficult to find white converse you ask?! Well... apparently a size 3 KIDS white converse is hard to find, because that size goes so quickly. Sure, if I wanted them sooner I could have bought a size 5 in adults which is what I am... but god bless these small feet of mine that allow me to pay the children's price. So I'm not complaining that I had to wait a little bit longer.
Picture
I paired my sneakers with a light grey ZARA knit dress that I bought on sale (SCORE!) at the ZARA in Richmond Center. It's a very simple sleeveless dress with a short zipper in the back. It's a very versatile piece just in the sense that the footwear can change the overall appearance, as well as layering button up shirts underneath, or chunky sweaters over top. The options with this dress are limitless! And it is SO soft! You will probably be seeing lots of different ways to wear this dress throughout the last weeks of summer and well into Fall/Winter.

The 4 Letter Word Every Girl Wants To Hear... SALE.

Rebecca Bloomwood couldn't have said it any better: "You know that thing when you see someone cute and he smiles and your heart kind of goes like warm butter sliding down hot toast? Well that's what it's like when I see a store. Only it's better." Especially when it's a store with a big red sale sign.

When Zara has a sale... I tell ya... they have a sale! It seemed as if almost everything was marked down, and sizes and styles didn't seem to be too picked over!

Outfits with these lovely pieces will be coming soon! And by soon I mean tomorrow!

Not Clothing, But Still Wearable.

7/15/2014

I don't ever blog about makeup, and since it's summer and I'm either in my work uniform, bathing suit, or pajamas (quite glamorous, really), I don't get to blog as many outfits as I would ideally like to. So to 'make up' for it (see what I did there...? Just a little side note, I am the queen of puns) I decided to do a quick blog about the every day makeup products I use.
I always like to try new products and brands, and as a result, my makeup drawer is close to over flowing. However, there are 2 brands I will ALWAYS be loyal to: MAC and ELF. I discovered ELF at Target in the states where you can literally buy eye liner and mascara for $1.00... I kid you not... as well as other makeup products that are as expensive as $7.00.
Picture
I have tried numerous concealers and the one that holds a special place in my heart is the Pro Longwear Concealer by MAC in the colour NW20.  It provides amazing coverage with such a small amount!

I usually dust MAC'S Mineralize Skin Finish in the colour Medium Plus over top to set it, however for summer,  I want a more dewy look to my skin so I apply a small amount of Maybelline BB cream over top of the concealer.

I feel completely naked without blush, and always opt for a coral one. I purchased a L'OREAL *new* THE ONE SWEEP sculpting blush duo (that's a mouth full) which is a small palette with a contour colour, and coral blush colour.

I occasionally like to add highlights by using my Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat radiant touch stick in the colour 1. It is a translucent cream that reflects the light creating a glow on your skin.

I go back and forth between a subtle black liquid eyeliner cat eye, and a brown pencil eyeliner cat eye. The brown pencil liner is obviously more subtle, but I love both looks equally as much.

I always curl my lashes (which freaks my dad out, especially when he sees me walking around while I'm actually curling my lashes... it's a gift), and then apply a few coats of black mascara.
My daily makeup routine honestly doesn't take that long, but if i want to make sure the wings of my eyeliner are even, then cut me some slack... because that takes time.

Crown Jewels.

7/11/2014

I have never been a consistent jewelry wearer until this past school year for some reason. I was always hot and cold about wearing it- same days I would, and some days I wouldn't.  I would say my jewelry taste in high school was quite different from what it is now. I was much more into chunky rings (and would wear a few at a time), paired with (lots) of bangles amd different styles of bracelets. Thank god my taste has changed since then. Now I am much more in to 'everyday' jewelry, and by that I mean the pieces I can wear everyday because they match everything!
These are my go to crown jewels and I will rarely leave the house without wearing them. Unless I'm going to work, which in that case, I don't wear any simply because it would look ridiculous wearing all of this in a bakery.
Each piece now feels like a part of me. It's a weird feeling when I forget to put one of my rings on, or the bracelet I layer with my watch... it's like that feeling you have all day when you accidentally forget your phone at home. The worst, right?
Although there are a lot of pieces to my everyday jewelry ensemble, it never looks like 'too much' because the pieces are quite dainty.
What I wear:

- ring with 4 connected hearts (worn on left hand)
- ring that looks braided (worn on left hand)
- ring with round ridges (worn on right hand)
- 2 smaller rings that are worn above the knuckle (one on each hand)
- silver watch (worn on left wrist)
- brown leopard print snap bracelet with gold studs (worn on left wrist)
- Tiffany's {K} necklace
- clothes hanger necklace
- round crystal stud earrings

These are a Few of my Favourite Things.

7/9/2014

There are a few materialistic things I cannot live without- mostly for practical reasons, but they also play a 'fashionable' role in my life.
Picture
Picture
1) {Wallet}

A good, leather wallet goes a long way. If you're getting a wallet, you might as well spend the money and invest in a good quality one that will last you a lifetime. I was in need of a new wallet, so I decided to splurge and picked up this Kate Spade wallet which was on sale at the Seattle Premium Outlets. I kept in mind that I wanted to use this wallet for years to come, so I made sure there was lots of space on the inside and also made sure it was a colour I would like once the fashion gods decide on a new it colour years from now. I chose red because it is a bold, but also classic colour. And one thing I particularly like about the size of the wallet is how I can use it as a clutch when I don't want to carry a purse (I can also stick my phone in it and zip it closed... so it literally holds everything).

Picture
2) {Coffee Mug}

Anyone who knows me knows that there is always coffee close by. So why not carry it in an adorable mug!? And it's black and white. I mean, c'mon, it has Kate written all over it! This is Starbucks' newest limited edition ceramic travel mug that comes in black and white, and multi coloured. They are quite unique and keep hot drinks hot, and cold drinks cold! The ultimate travel companion!

**Disclaimer** DO NOT DRINK OUT OF A CERAMIC OR STAINLESS STEEL MUG WHILE DRIVING

Picture
3) {Sunnies}

A good pair of sunglasses goes a long way. They are a crucial part of an outfit, especially in the summer (that statement may sound crazy, because duh, sunglasses are meant for summer.... but there are people out there who wear them indoors... during winter. So yes, sunglasses are especially important in the summer). Always make sure the sunglasses you purchase are UV protected! You don't want the suns' harsh rays to effect your eyesight! Different styles also change the mood of your outfit. These are my classic sunnies  which I picked up from Target for $12.00! And they look similar to the Raybans but they cost less!

Picture
4) {Fragrance}

Jo Malone. That's all I really have to say about that. Jo Malone fragrances are incredible! They are all natural ingredients and all of the scents are to die for! Jo Malone started in London, but I had my first Jo Malone experience in New York a few years back and have been hooked ever since. I am really into the fruity scents and first purchased {English Pear & Freesia}. I have been wearing it ever since. When I was recently in New York, I was on the hunt for a new Jo Malone fragrance and was introduced to {Blackberry & Bay}. Needless to say, it's my new favourite! However, the cool thing about Jo Malone fragrances is that you can actually combine scents. Most fragrances, when you mix them, are actually quite repulsive and too strong and headache inducing, but these ones all seem to compliment each other quite well. I can wear either of my fragrances on their own, or combine them for a totally different scent! They are quite unique!

Picture
5) {Satchel}

A good bag is like a good wallet. Look for versatility, and quality. I actually thrifted this real Dooney and Bourke genuine leather side satchel from the Value Village in Richmond. I was quite surprised of how good of shape it was in, and was even more surprised about the price! $15.00! When their bags normally cost anywhere from $100 and up. It's a neutral colour so it can be worn with anything, and its a good size- not too big, not too small. And I prefer side satchels over bags you have to carry by the handle, or throw over your shoulder. It just feels like less work! And the weight of the bag is evenly distributed when it's slung across your body, rather than just hanging from one shoulder. Purses- it's a science, not just a pretty object (but it is that too...)

    I am a full time fashion student and a full time fashionista. Being both is hard, but rewarding work. Keeping up with trends, while keeping up with homework... It's harder than keeping up with the Kardashian's! Lucky for me, neither of these professions slow down; hence full time. Homework is always piling up, and trends are always changing, but that's what I love about this industry!
