To me, pairing pink and blue together had always been a fashion crime (you don't want to look like walking cotton candy or bubble gum. So not cute). Same with red and pink, and blue and black. However, thanks to different colour shades, these combinations look less like fair food, and more like a sophisticated ensemble (although I'm still not sure how I feel about the combination of red and pink).
I'm a huge fan of layering, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with layering in the summer... especially if it is a little overcast. However, you still want to keep your outfit suitable for summer... which is why I am trying to stay away from my typical all black colour scheme, and play around with subtle colour mixing.
I had literally gotten back from a {lovely} 2 week, whirl wind of a vacation today, and during these past 2 weeks, I purchased what I can already sense will be yet another summer favourite!

This magnificent piece of light pink J Crew fabric. To. Die. For. The first portion of my vacation was 5 days in California where we made sure to stop at the Santa Monica Promenade to do some shopping {It was a girls trip.... what were we supposed to do? By-pass the promenade? No.} J Crew was having a wonderful sale which allowed me to pick this piece up. I'm all for a good sweater. In fact, nothing is better than a good sweater. And personally, I think this is a good sweater. It has 3/4 length sleeves which makes it great for layering with collared shirts, and the soft pink colour makes it versatile for both the hot seasons and cold seasons. For example, in the Winter, a thick chunky cardigan layered overtop, or even a charcoal wool coat, with black denim and some boots. The pop of muted pink will keep a winter suited outfit fresh! However, for summer, I decided to wear this outfit to my cousin-in-laws' surprise bridal shower. It was a little cloudy that day so I figured layering light pieces was a good idea.
I layered the sweater over a crisp white button up which was buttoned up all the way, and a sort of rolled up the sleeves on the white shirt. The contrast of the collar being buttoned up all the way and the sleeves appearing 'messy' makes this 'proper' look, more casual. It's hard to tell in the picture, but I paired this ensemble with navy blue pants cuffed at the ankles. You see, pink and blue CAN go together and not look like an outfit your mother picked out for you at LaSenza Girl back when that was a thing. I went to my go-to black ankle booties, however, I wish I paired this look with a pair of leopard print pointed toe boots that I have. I think they would have complimented the overall look quite well. To glam it up a bit, I wore a chunky necklace that has some light pink gems in it which really ties the whole look together!
{And the flowers at my grandmas house matched my look quite well!}
