Sometimes life revolves around Coats...

The best part about being a fashion student is not only getting to dress the part of a fashion student... but having the ability to draft and sew garments! Before the Christmas break, we started designing our jacket/coat designs. The process of going from idea to design to product happens quite quickly. Once we have a design that has been approved, we start drafting. The second day back after the break, we jumped right into the production of our coats-there was no easing back into the flow of school. This coat took me 2 classes to draft, 1 class to cut the pattern and the fabric out, and 1 class.. which turned into a 12 hour school day... to sew the prototype. I then had my fitting, and had 1 class to make any changes. Handing in the pattern and prototype is a relief- because we can take a breather before we move onto sewing our final coats. So for the time being, we are drafting and sewing swimwear and lingerie samples- a complete 180 from coats!

I am a full time fashion student and a full time fashionista. Being both is hard, but rewarding work. Keeping up with trends, while keeping up with homework... It's harder than keeping up with the Kardashian's! Lucky for me, neither of these professions slow down; hence full time. Homework is always piling up, and trends are always changing, but that's what I love about this industry!
