A YOUNG GIRL WITH A DREAM...
Not many 8 year olds have an epiphany and figure out what they want to do in life. In grade 4, I saw a commercial: "....if you carry a sketch book around, you should become a fashion designer..." That was my ah-ha moment- as lame as that sounds. From then on, I knew I wanted to be a fashion designer. My grandma had been a professional seamstress, and her Grandfather was a professional tailor... so it appeared to run in the family. Grandma taught me how to knit and gave me boxes of fabric, and my parents bought me a small, child-safe sewing machine. When I was approaching high school, I was incredibly excited about getting to take a sewing class. I took sewing for 5 years in high school, and learned how to work with different fabrics, make pattern manipulations, and draft a basic tunic from scratch. Luckily I had an amazing teacher who gave me all these skills I am using in my current studies. THE DREAM CONTINUES... I am a full time fashion student and a full time fashionista. Being both is hard, but rewarding work. Keeping up with trends, while keeping up with homework... It's harder than keeping up with the Kardashian's! Lucky for me, neither of these professions slow down; hence full time. Homework is always piling up, and trends are always changing, but that's what I love about this industry! I like to think I was a fashionista at an early age... which I guess is half true if you disregard the fact that I used to hate wearing jeans, wore a blue velour tracksuit on a regular basis, topped with the unflattering look of unbrushed hair. But I've changed, and grown. I've come to the realization that jeans are good, and you actually need to brush your hair once in a while. For me, fashion is incredibly important. It's more than just throwing something on in the morning... It's about showcasing what kind of a person you are! I can't really define my personal style because it's constantly changing and being inspired by the season's "must-have" trends, but I have always been the type of person who loves to experiment with fashion... and that's what you'll get to see on this blog! Like Mr. Tom Ford said: "Dressing well is a form of good manners" and he is absolutely right! Mom and Dad always taught me to be polite... Anyways, I have been studying fashion for 2 years now, and will graduate with a Bachelor Degree in Fashion Design and Technology from the Chip and Shannon Wilson School of Design at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. Through my studies, I have already seen myself grow as a fashion enthusiast, and my love for this industry has solidified. I dream of New York and London, and hope to find myself working and living there once I've graduated. |
