Today was all about Cloisters, Brooklyn, and 34th.
Our first stop of the day was Cloisters, which is a midevil branch off of the MET Museum. This museum was absolutley stunning, and the architecture of it was beautifully done.

(can the lighting get any more beautiful here! This hallway is a photographers dream!)
We had an amazing tour of one particular room that was filled with tapestries that were said to have been a wedding gift to an unknown couple (tons of handmade tapestries... now THAT'S a wedding gift!) Our tour guide took us through the assumed story behind each image woven into each tapestry to give us an idea of what that specific time period was like.

After an informative tour at Cloisters, and a quick photo op, we hopped on the subway to Brooklyn.

Brooklyn is such a cool place. I would have to say theres more locals and less tourists there,  which makes you feel a little more "New Yorker". We stopped at a flea market... a totally hipster flea market,  full of cool ods and ends, and some real treasures. It was really cool to just walk around and take it all in.

Side note: Brooklyn has awesome food. 3/4 of a chicken, the best mac and cheese ever, and a side of corn and a bun... $8. I kid you not. I have never been so full in my life.
Another side note: you will see some of the coolest graffiti in Brooklyn as well.
To end the day and have a complete change of scene, we made a stop at 34th (posh shopping). The sun was setting (and apparently the stores were closing) so we didnt get much shopping done. But we saw the streets glow with the sun shining on it, and tbe empire state building was beautifully lit in the spot light of the sun which was good enough for me. And we saw a man selling (illegal) knock off bags get arrested. That was fun.

New York- Day 2

If I had to pick a day, day 2 of being in the big apple was probably my favourite.
After a decent (ish) sleep, and the whole "getting over jet lag" thing, I felt ready and energized for the day (beside the fact that I'm always full of energy..)!
We started our day with a boat cruise around Manhattan which was absolutely amazing!! I'm a sucker for a nice view, and skylines are my favourite thing in the world, so get to f to take in the city from a boat, took my breath away!

This view of this city is just so amazing! The different parts of Manhattan have slightly different styles of buildings, the new world trade center is visible, and there is still a space in this beautiful skyline where the 2 original twin towers used to stand. Across the water is the Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island, where all the immigrants would come to enter the United States (this is where they would wait be accepted into the country, or declined and sent back to their homes in other countries..so it was a very bitter sweet place at the time.)

After our boat cruise, we made our way to the 9/11 memorial sight which is absolutely beautiful.
The first time I had been to New York was in 2006. At this time, the sight of 9/11 was fenced off, there was lots of rubble, and a huge iron cross in the center of the grounds to memorialize the event. Now, being my 3rd time back in New York, it was amazing to see the memorial sight a beautiful place to be to remember and reflect. There are two 30 foot deep pools where the foundations of the original towers stood, and the names of all the lives lost are engraved into the sides of these pools.

Our tour guides then brought us to this beautiful place called century 21 (not tbe real estate company). It's basically Winners on steroids. So for all you Winners lovers (like myself), you need to get on a plane to New York (not a red eye.....) and see this department store for yourself! All designer brands, all discounted. Nuff said.
We spent the rest of our day in a little place called heaven. Aka SOHO (which actually stands for south of Houston). SOHO is where all the good, designer brand shopping is at! And of course, I had to visit my home girl Kate Spade........

I am a full time fashion student and a full time fashionista. Being both is hard, but rewarding work. Keeping up with trends, while keeping up with homework... It's harder than keeping up with the Kardashian's! Lucky for me, neither of these professions slow down; hence full time. Homework is always piling up, and trends are always changing, but that's what I love about this industry!
